Samsung NX10

Undoubtedly, the greatest news of today is that the Samsung NX10 got the full featured 30 pages review at DPreview. The overall score is 69% (which is very good). Cut off mostly due to not perfect video capturing performance. In any case, DPreview are those guys who set the status quo in a matter of camera reviews so I emphatically recommend you to read it or at least page through.

Also, if you would like more Samsung NX10 I have another one for you. This time in Russian. It's much shorter than DPreview's one and much more positive but the sample images are on the chilly side - no cacties, just snow.

Samsung NX5 and NX100 this spring

K-rumors reporting about highly probable almost announcement rumor that this spring sometimes between April and June Samsung will roll out two new cameras in Samsung NX system.

The one is already rumored many times Samsung NX5 that should be cheaper variety of NX10. And the other is Samsung NX100 which is more interesting because it will be Samsung first really compact EVIL - the rival for Olympus' PEN series.

K-rumors haven't privided any proofs but in case of Samsung NX5 no proofs necessary. This camera will pop up in a several weeks from now. What about Samsung NX100? I wouldn't be so optimistic about it. NX100 could be delayed for a month or two... or half a year.

Samsung NX10 with 30mm F/2 lensSamsung NX10 that was announced in January but hit the shelves just a week ago is getting more and more popularity. Every day here and there you can find the reviews, previews, hands-ons and unboxings. And here is another dose:

The first one is rather strange and kind of short but it has a pics and the Samsung NX10 is coupled with the 30mm F/2 pancake lens wich is very interesting.

The second one is from The Photoblographer. Quite positive preview without any samples.

What SDHC card should I choose for my Samsung NX10?

Samsung NX10 and SanDisk Extreme III Class 10 SDHC cardChoosing couldn't be easy when there are as much options as on todays SD card market - a dozen of brand names and almost each of them have several card types and sizes on the shelves. Generally, navigation through the card types is a no-brainer since all the modern SD (SDHC, actually) cards come with the "class" designated on them, with the "Class 2" is the oldest and slowest one and the "Class 10" the newest and, theoretically, fastest one.

But another question arises: do the same Class 10 SDHC cards ofd a different brands are born equal? Do they perform the same inside Samsung NX10 (or any other modern camera of the same price tag)? Thanks to mrerics at DPReview forums who have tested the read/write speed of three SDHC cards - Sandisk Exreme III, Patriot LX (that is the NoName card actually, since Patriot haven't any own R&D and/or manufacturing facilities) and a genral slow SD card.

The results of this short and dirty test are surprisingly interesting. First of all, in the card reader performance of both Sandisk and Patriot SDHC cards are on par and twice as better than a general card. But when you put them into Samsung NX10 everything changes. Sandisk Exreme III becomes almost twice as fast as a NoName (Patriot LX) SDHC Class 10 card.

So, the resume is quite obvious: the more you spend on a quality modern SD card the more performance you would be able to squeeze out of your camera.
